MONTREAL, October 30, 2016 – On October 30, during the tenth-anniversary a celebrations for Quartier Pointe-Nord, the latest public artwork by Linda Covit, The Bouquets, was publicly unveiled in the presence of Verdun borough councillor Manon Gauthier, member of the Ville de Montréal’s executive committee who is responsible for culture, heritage, design, Espace pour la vie and status of women, Samuel and Ilan Gewurz, president and executive vice-president of Proment Corporation, and Nathalie Boutin, manager of radio station CKVL and neighbourhood residents’ representative.
Covit’s entire work, which will comprise three Bouquets, will be located near the future EVOLO X tower in a garden by the Saint Lawrence River. The artist was inspired by her travels in Japan, and Bouquets arose from an idea to create furniture/sculpture incorporating benches that position visitors for a specific viewpoint. Crafted in painted aluminum, St-Marc limestone and stainless steel, Bouquets will offer walkers a peaceful haven amid the greenery on the knoll. It will reflect the sunlight on the river and cast shadows on the ground. Through her art, Covit strives to transform a public space into a personal experience, just as Proment Corporation is doing with Pointe-Nord.
During this festive event, which brought together dignitaries, public figures and residents, Proment donated Covit’s work to the community. The Pointe-Nord green neighbourhood, which combines the warmth of a community with vibrant modern architecture and the restorative effect of nature, is one of the few nieghourhoods in Quebec to receive Leed ND Gold certification.
