Young, urban chic condo with a Scandinavian look

ISABELLE ROBERGE & MYLÈNE TRUDEL

CONDO 1402 – EVOLO S

Decorating a small space requires a certain flair and expertise, so we entrusted Mylène Trudel and Isabelle Roberge with this task—and they did not disappoint!

The duo worked their magic with the 620 square feet one-bedroom condo in the brand new Evolo S building. “This condo is for first-time buyers, who are often millennials at the beginning of their careers,” says Mylène. “We wanted to show that it’s possible to achieve simple chic look on a limited budget.”

A top partner

Mylène and Isabelle teamed up with the folks at Must, a new offshoot of Maison Corbeil that opened last spring in Griffintown. And it was only natural that they work with them—the concept store is heaven for design lovers and offers and an array of services to boot. To top it off, their furniture fits great in small spaces, with beds and sectionals designed specifically for condos.

Scandinavian influence

“Scandinavian design was a key inspiration for this project,” says Isabelle. It’s characterized by natural materials, lots of white mixed with warm grays and other muted tones, clean lines and geometric shapes. In this unit, Mylène and Isabelle chose to create even more of a Scandinavian feel by installing wooden flooring on the living room wall.

The look really works and is sure to resonate with people who like nature, design and the Pointe Nord neighbourhood.

Urban creativity

Our designers have chosen original and contemporary artworks at Galerie Le Royer. The selected artists exploit urbanity through their medium and innovative techniques.

Interior decoration tip

When you hang artwork on the wall, place it between 155 and 170 cm from the ground (measured from the centre of the piece). These standard measurements are used by art galleries and will help you show off your prized paintings and photos.

Designer Francine Martineau

A passion for design

Francine Martineau’s work with Proment Corporation spans a rather long history—17 years, to be exact. Francine designs the interiors of model condos so that they really show off the space and sell new units. “I consider myself lucky to work for Proment,” says Francine. “I like the concept of model condos with different layouts for different types of people. For example, the one I’m working on right now targets semi-retired couples with thriving social lives. In particular, they like to host their friends for afternoon wine and cheese.” According to Brenda Gewurz, vice-president of marketing at Proment, “Francine is always reinventing herself.” Francine loves taking on challenges and bringing in new and unusual ideas and pieces. For example, in the condo she’s currently designing, the TV screen transforms into a mirror when it’s not in use. In her work, Francine applies a central theme. Shapes, patterns and colours can repeat from one room to the next. She prefers to use new materials and likes playing with light and reflection in the room.

Inspired by the view

“When I visited the condo, I immediately fell in love with the panoramic view of downtown Montreal and Nuns’ Island. I wondered how I could make the view the centrepiece of the condo,” says Francine. Therefore she chose a sectional sofa with a backrest that can be lowered, from Roche Bobois in downtown Montreal. The same approach was used for the dining room: the extendable table and the bench placed near the window provide for an unobstructed view.

Maximizing the space

“Since space in a condo is limited, I decided on a Murphy bed with a built-in desk from Limuro. In the master bedroom, the upholstered headboard matches the shape of the room, making it extra cosy. You feel like you’re in a cocoon,” says Francine. There’s a certain lightness to the room, too, thanks to night tables and lights that are built in to the bed and appear to float.

Incorporating art

Hamelin Aubé, a team of visual arts and decorative objects consultants, will help Francine choose paintings and sculptures to put the finishing touches to the decoration.

Condo interior decoration tip

Condos should be decorated differently than houses. There needs to be a link between all the rooms, because they are all in plain sight. Since the space is more limited, a single room can be used for different purposes. “When I work on a condo, my priorities are lightness and the view. I draw inspiration from how I feel when I look outside.”

Anne-Marie Jean, designer

Interior decoration that we love!

For as long as she can remember, Anne-Marie has been fascinated by interior decoration. As a child, she was allowed to design her own bedroom, and at just 12 years old, she even built her own vanity set—complete with electrical wiring!

Anne-Marie has been working with Proment Corporation for 11 years. After studying design, she was hired to work with the “Verre sur Vert” interior decoration team. One thing led to another, and soon she would be put in charge of the interior design for a model condo, to help the units sell. Model condo interior design has become one of her specialities. “A lot of people find it hard to imagine their future home in an empty space. By bringing in furniture and some interior decoration, we give the place its own personality. It generally doesn’t take long to sell the condos after that,” says Anne-Marie. Decorating model condos can be a special challenge, as budgets tend to be very limited, so designers have to hunt down discounts and deals. As Anne-Marie likes to say, “It’s champagne taste on a beer budget!” She works with a network of partners and merchants to secure a supply of beautiful pieces at bargain prices.

About Anne-Marie’s condo in Evolo S

”Now that I’m in my 40s, my style is changing. I’m moving away from a very minimalist modern design and toward a cosier atmosphere. The model that I’m planning for Evolo S will have a vacation feel, reminiscent of the cottages you see along the coast of Maine. It’s going to be a very warm place. The design will be modern, but with a mix of eclectic pieces. My concept will appeal to a lot of different age groups.”

LINDA COVIT’S LATEST PUBLIC ARTWORK UNVEILED AT QUARTIER POINTE-NORD ON NUNS’ ISLAND

MONTREAL, October 30, 2016 – On October 30, during the tenth-anniversary a celebrations for Quartier Pointe-Nord, the latest public artwork by Linda Covit, The Bouquets, was publicly unveiled in the presence of Verdun borough councillor Manon Gauthier, member of the Ville de Montréal’s executive committee who is responsible for culture, heritage, design, Espace pour la vie and status of women, Samuel and Ilan Gewurz, president and executive vice-president of Proment Corporation, and Nathalie Boutin, manager of radio station CKVL and neighbourhood residents’ representative.

Covit’s entire work, which will comprise three Bouquets, will be located near the future EVOLO X tower in a garden by the Saint Lawrence River. The artist was inspired by her travels in Japan, and Bouquets arose from an idea to create furniture/sculpture incorporating benches that position visitors for a specific viewpoint. Crafted in painted aluminum, St-Marc limestone and stainless steel, Bouquets will offer walkers a peaceful haven amid the greenery on the knoll. It will reflect the sunlight on the river and cast shadows on the ground. Through her art, Covit strives to transform a public space into a personal experience, just as Proment Corporation is doing with Pointe-Nord.
During this festive event, which brought together dignitaries, public figures and residents, Proment donated Covit’s work to the community. The Pointe-Nord green neighbourhood, which combines the warmth of a community with vibrant modern architecture and the restorative effect of nature, is one of the few nieghourhoods in Quebec to receive Leed ND Gold certification.
